On a rainy April night in 1968 Memphis, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spends his final evening at the Lorraine Motel. Weary from leading the Civil Rights Movement, he encounters spirited hotel maid Camae. As they interact, King delves into his past and fate with newfound insight. The play, The Mountaintop, by Katori Hall, presents a candid portrayal of King, showcasing his strengths and flaws. Through lively and magical storytelling, it revisits his life, civil rights history, and contemporary relevance.
Debuting Pacharo Mzembe as King and vibrant Candy Bowers as Camae, the play garnered success on both West End and Broadway stages, offering a poignant exploration of an iconic figure’s humanity.
